Three months ago I wrote a bio post that said I felt like a chicken. Not so much anymore. I am too busy building the writing life to fear failure.

I freelance at NAIWE and blog at Life on Clemson Road. I teach English for college freshman. I am conducting my doctoral research and plan to be PhD by the end of the year.

I swim. I run. I read. I'm a wife and a mom. A sister, a daughter, and a granddaughter. All of it contributes to what I have to say.

For some people change occurs violently and is met with resistance. For me change is organic and fluid. I expect no less than for each and every moment of each and every day to present opportunities to be better than yesterday.

I've been told it takes courage to live that open to change but I don't think so. I don't see that we have much choice. We change ourselves and change the world.

The late David Foster Wallace once told a story about two young fish who swim by an older fish. The older fish says, "howdy, boys, how's the water?" the younger fish say, "what the hell is water?"

I write fiction about the moment a character realizes what the hell water is.

Look up. Take notice. Change.
