Meg Medina
Hola -
I write picture books, middle grade fiction, and YA fiction with Candlewick Press and Christy Ottaviano Books at Henry Holt Books for Young Readers.
Personal life is usually the springboard for my tales. This includes everything from family stories of Cuba and memories life in New York City to stories of kids with disabilities and growing up an outsider.
I try to spend at least three hours a day working on my fiction. The rest of the time is spent working for a Richmond non-profit called James River Writers and handling all the extremely glamourous aspects of the literary life, such as bleaching sweat socks and fixing dinners that six opinionated people will eat. ¡Caramba, cooperate!
I live in Richmond with my intergenerational famÃlia and our pets - a black dog named Noche and a murderous cat named Wolfe. My favorite bookstores in town are bbgb tales for kids and Fountain Bookstore.
You can follow my blog at www.megmedina.com or my tweets on twitter. I keep an author profile on Amazon, too.

I'm also behind Girls of Summer, a curated reading list of books for strong girls designed with my fellow Candlewick Press author and friend Gigi Amateau. We lauched it July 2011. It was a project of a lifetime, and we're planning on doing a new list every summer.
My family background is Cuban American. Typically, I write books with Latinas as the main characters -- tough cookies who are figuring out life's problems, large and small. While my books are Latino-centered, I write for all kids. Turns out,
the ups and downs of growing up are universally taxing.
