J.M. Brewer
I am a 45-year-old native of Georgia who enjoys writing creative nonfiction. About a year and a half ago, I started thinking about all the interesting things that I had seen in my life and being a middle-aged Dad to a young child, I worried that I might not always be around to share my memories with him. I began to write about the things I remembered from my life at about the age he was then and found that I had finally tapped into my creative core in a way that was personally satisfying and which served a greater purpose at the same time.I hesitantly began to share articles with my family and close friends who encouraged me to take it further, eventually resulting in my writing blog, "The Literate Pen". I am now nearing my 100th article, have a small but loyal base of followers and enjoy writing whenever I get the chance. I write about the classic nouns: people, places and things and I am fortunate to have many generations of family history to draw on, plus the more recent perspective of being a father to a young child who enables me to see things through his eyes. As a native Southerner, I like to weave all this against a backdrop of a culture unique in the United States that is part of who I am. I never imagined myself writing a blog, a book or even a newspaper article but have found that I enjoy committing words and thoughts to paper…its like taking stuff out of your mind so you can look at it with your own eyes and see more than just a reflection of yourself in a mirror.
My wife of twelve years and I have one son plus our three adopted "children", a dog named Snoopy and two cats named Atticus and Thomas.
