During early childhood Jason Runnels was adopted by a pack of Chupacabras. Frustrated by the apparent lack of organization, Jason sought to decipher their complex social hierarchy. He quickly became Alpha Male. Having mastered one of life’s great mysteries, he left the pack to attend elementary school with humans. Without his leadership, the Chupacabras disappeared into obscurity.

While in elementary school Jason self-published a series of fantasy books. The stories were terrible, but he learned the craft of book construction and marketing – mostly to his new human family members. Encouraging an alternative to writing, his family challenged him with mind teasers and intricate metal puzzles. His favorite was the Rubik’s Cube.

Jason still enjoys challenges. He still writes, still solves puzzles, and is happy to hear of the occasional sighting of one of his Chupacabra brethren. Jason enjoys writing short stories. He is inspired and influenced by many, many human authors including: John Cheever, Stephen Hawking, Flannery O’Connor, Chuck Palahniuk, Carl Sagan, Mark Twain, and Kurt Vonnegut.

Jason lives in the northern suburbs of Chicago. When not writing he provides sales and technical leadership to several hundred consultants at his software company, and helps global manufacturing companies transform their businesses. His forthcoming novel deals with the spiritual journey a man undergoes while attempting to regain custody of his daughter.
