Vivien Weaver
I'm a recent transplant to the Pacific Northwest and am (hopefully) attending a PhD program in Fall 2012 that focuses on rhetoric and cultural studies. I am a person of varied interests, and writing is how I put them all together. I write because I have things to say, and because I want to understand the world around me.I love to explore human nature: the various ways we are kind and cruel to one another, and how we influence one another. Though I write urban fantasy, I don't write about magic as much as I write about people. Yet I can't seem to get away from the paranormal. I think that's because magic allows us to dream, to step outside of ourselves and perhaps see the world in a different way.
The first novel in my series is titled The Wicked Instead. It is my first commercial novel. My inspirations for it were varied, but most of them came from elements I saw in books, TV, movies, and pop culture that I wanted to play with. It started with the desire to put my own spin on the old "heroes prophesied to save the world" tale. I thought, who would be the least fit to become princes of the world?
Why, a couple of Arkansas rednecks raised in a militant religious commune, of course.
Wicked is in the editing stages. I recently began work on its sequel. For more info and to read the first chapter, see my website.
