Laura L Mays Hoopes

Professor of molecular biology turned creative writer, Laura Hoopes lives in the LA area. She is in the MFA program in Creative Writing (Fiction) at San Diego State University.  Her memoir, Breaking Through the Spiral Ceiling, was released in spring, 2011. It is about being attracted to science by Sputnik before scientists were ready to welcome women, persisting and making it as a molecular gerontologist, and at the same time, being married and having children as another focus of life.  About determination, balance, and persistence to achieve goals.  Also published short story "Things to do to softball players, then and now" in anthology Mixed Blessings and Other Short Stories in March, 2011, winner in a short story contest.  She is working on two novels and a dual biography of two women in molecular biology.
