Maria was born in Washington Court House, Ohio on July 3rd, 1965 to her parents Galen and Georgia Juanita Adkins. She wrote her first poem when she was six-years-old and her first short story soon afterward. After graduating from Miami Trace High School in 1983, she transplanted her Buckeye roots in the sandy soil of St. Petersburg, Florida. There, she met and married her husband, Shawn James Kelly, a native of Pittsfield, Massachusetts. Mr. Kelly passed away on May 10th, 2001.
Maria is currently enrolled at St. Petersburg College where she hopes to obtain an A.A. degree and transfer to the University of South Florida seeking a B.A. in English Literature. She hopes to eventually acquire an M.F.A. degree in Creative Writing so she can teach her passion for language, literature, and writing at the University level.
Maria lives with a tyrannical feline named Missy BratCat who demands cuddling and belly-rubs at the most inconvenient times (usually when the author is hotly engaged in plot development).
Maria has had 12 poems and two short stories published. Four new stories written by Ms. Kelly are scheduled to be published soon; including a Science Fiction/Horror tale, ‘World Wide Web,’ which will appear in the anthology “Creepy Things” by Static Movement. Recently she sold a Sci-Fi poem, ‘Before I Was Numb,’ to ‘Aoife’s Kiss’ magazine). A local anthology coming out on October 23rd, 2010 called “Zombie Nation: St. Pete” will feature Maria’s short story ‘The Lust, The Flesh.’
