David Alan Brantford spent his early youth exploring and displaying his creative talents. Writing plays, poems, and short stories during his elementary, high school, and college years, David instead entered the world of social services in his early twenties. He has almost 30 years experience in management of community residential programs, ranging from youth and adult corrections to housing for homeless adults and children.

He re-enters the world of creative writing at the age of 53, having discovered some amazing and unknown maternal family history. Combined with a need to focus on more fulfilling goals in mid-life, David is excited to be researching and writing his first narrative non-fiction novel, The Cotton Picker Scat.

David's genealogical research thus far has taken him to Detroit, Michigan, and to Cynthiana, Ruddles Mill, Shawhan, and Paris, Kentucky. Short stories from the novel will debut on September 15, 2010, on his website and blog. David plans on completing the novel in late spring, 2011.

Although the complete theme of the work will only be revealed by reading the novel, it is David’s hope that The Cotton Picker Scat will advance American society’s current movement away from the separatist racial views of its past.
