I write fiction and creative nonfiction for the most part, though the occasional poem finds its way to the surface. I’ve been nominated for Pushcart Prizes in both fiction and nonfiction and many years ago received an Academy of American Poets Award. My writing can be found in a variety of places: from Columbia Journalism Review to Brain, Child to Word Riot, which says something about why it is hard for me to settle down and finish the novel I’m close to completing. I’m interested in a lot of different things and like writing short essays, stories and the occasional magazine article about whatever my latest obsession happens to be. I have a short story forthcoming in Crimespree Magazine (July/August 2010) that is a section I cut from my novel in progress. I also have a very short story forthcoming in Hint Fiction (W. W. Norton, Fall 2010), and an essay of mine appears in the anthology The Maternal is Political (Seal Press 2008).
